The difference in earnings between women and men (the so-called Gender Pay Gap - GPG) in the Czech Republic is 18,9%. The EU average is more than 5% lower. Among the Member States, the Czech Republic is the fifth worst.
There are many reasons for unequal pay. These include, for example, a higher concentration of women in lower paid jobs (education, health and social care), smaller representation of women in leadership positions, gender stereotypes in the perception of social roles of women and men (woman - caregiver, man - provider), unequal division of child care and domestic work, or even direct discrimination.
